The Challenge

Bard College, in Annandale-on-Hudson, NY, was seeking to contain rising energy spend and continue its push toward carbon neutrality (target: 2035). It turned to the energy experts at Ecosystem to contribute to its planning process with a state-supported energy master plan.

The Solution

Working together over three months, Ecosystem and Bard evaluated the college’s current energy footprint to create a roadmap for projected use that aligns with the campus’ facility master plan. With the college’s ambitious goal of carbon neutrality by 2035, Ecosystem focused on GHG-intensive heating systems for replacement.

The Outcome

The Master Plan develops strategies to contain or reverse rising consumption, costs, and emissions, with a focus leveraging planned equipment replacement in projects that incorporate high-efficiency alternatives. Given Bard’s commitment to geothermal heating and cooling (which currently provides
