Sustainable Development Policy
Sustainable development is central to our mission and activities. Since the founding of Ecosystem, we have partnered with our clients to eliminate inefficiencies by improving the energy performance of complex electromechanical infrastructure. We develop creative and cost-effective solutions to operational issues and we reduce our clients’ GHG emissions.
We adhere to the following definition of sustainable development: “a long-term approach to development which takes into account the inextricable nature of the environmental, social and economic dimensions of development activities.”
3. GUIDING PRINCIPLES
RESPONSIBLE PRODUCTION AND CONSUMPTION
We challenge the status quo to develop creative and cost-effective solutions that increase efficiencies and drive out waste from complex energy systems, while improving operations, comfort and infrastructure. We work to ensure that production methods and consumption patterns minimize resource depletion, waste, and negative impacts on society and the environment.
We are committed to continually improving the environmental performance of our operations, and we encourage our employees to use sustainable and active transportation. We believe that environmental protection must play an integral role in Ecosystem’s development process.
HEALTH, SAFETY AND PREVENTION
All employees must follow best practices in workplace health and safety. In the presence of a known risk, we put in place preventive, mitigative and corrective measures, preferably at the source.
We also encourage lifestyle habits that promote health and personal development.
SOCIAL EQUITY AND SOLIDARITY
We support several causes and participate in projects that improve our communities. We are committed to maintaining diversity and equity in the workplace. This is our way of ensuring that development is undertaken in a spirit of ethics, social solidarity, and equity between generations.
We promote a collaborative environment where employees work together to achieve Ecosystem’s mission. Our teams of multidisciplinary specialists work in partnership with our clients by maintaining an ongoing dialogue, and our adaptive planning allows for quick changes where necessary and the continued optimization of our projects. As a socioeconomic actor, this is our way of collaborating to ensure that development is sustainable from an environmental, social and economic standpoint.
Our business model supports development activities that are efficient and respectful of the environment. Our projects are geared toward social progress, innovation and economic prosperity. We employ a contractual approach where our compensation depends on generating profits and benefits for our clients, rather than charging based on project costs or an hourly rate.
This policy applies to all Ecosystem employees. It also provides a means to share our corporate direction with all of our stakeholders, including our suppliers and subcontractors, and to invite them to join us in achieving our sustainable development goals.
By adopting a sustainable development policy, Ecosystem wishes to more fully align our ongoing operations with our company’s mission.
Developing this policy also provides an opportunity to review our practices, see the progress accomplished to date, and identify areas for continuous improvement.
As well, we aim to more firmly establish Ecosystem’s position and commitment to contributing to society’s development in a way that is sustainable and in greater harmony with the environment on which we all depend.
Our Sustainable Development Committee consists of a designated representative from each employee category and is chaired by a member of the management. Starting from our guiding principles, the committee gathers suggestions from our employees, and identifies specific measurable goals that are applicable to Ecosystem’s operations. The committee then provides the management with appropriate recommendations to guide Ecosystem toward achieving our sustainable development goals.
The application of this policy and the results achieved annually are under the responsibility of the signatories from Ecosystem’s management. They ensure that conditions are in place for the process to be successful and regularly monitor the progress made.
