Ecosystem is proud that two of our projects were recently recognized by ASHRAE and received first place prizes for the Eastern Canada region:
- The Marguerite-Bourgeoys School Board won first place for Institutional Energy Management in Existing Educational Facilities.
- Lakeridge Health won first place in the Existing Healthcare Facilities category.
The ASHRAE Technology Awards recognize outstanding achievements by members who have successfully applied innovative building design in the areas of occupant comfort, indoor air quality and energy conservation. Their designs incorporate ASHRAE standards for effective energy management and indoor air quality. Performance is proven through one year’s actual, verifiable operating data.
Ecosystem’s collaboration with Lakeridge Health on a deep energy retrofit was also selected for a Regional Award from the Association of Energy Engineers for Institutional Energy Management in the Canada Region.
About the Projects
The project implemented at the Marguerite-Bourgeoys School Board focused on a comprehensive improvement of about 40 buildings. By targeting sustainable development measures, the School Board was able to take advantage of generous incentives, which considerably reduce the project’s payback period. Measures have simplified the operation and maintenance and improved occupant comfort. Marguerite-Bourgeoys is now one of the most energy-efficient school boards in the province of Quebec.
Ecosystem and Lakeridge Health partnered on four sites to renew the energy infrastructure, improve energy efficiency, and enhance the environment for patient care. The project has reduced heating and cooling loads, leveraged low-cost energy sources, and improved staff and patient The production of renewable energy on-site via solar photovoltaic panels also ensures reliable operation and increases energy efficiency. Now LH sells back energy from the solar system to the grid, and over $1.4M in savings have been reinvested into improving patient care and supporting infrastructure.
