Adelphi University – Sustainability Campus Leader

Adelphi University, located in the heart of New York State, reaffirms its status as a leader in campus sustainability. The University has embarked on an ambitious energy efficiency project that generates $1.6 million in energy savings and reduces greenhouse gas emissions by 4,600 metric tons per year. Ecosystem is the engineering firm leading the project, which includes major upgrades to the campus’ mechanical infrastructure and the installation of a Combined Heat and Power (CHP) plant that will produce heat and electricity.

The project costs $13.5 million and is expected to be paid back in 8 years. Construction has already begun and will continue to the end of 2016.

This energy efficiency project is one of many sustainability initiatives at Adelphi University. The campus uses 100% green power and has on-site solar PV generation. Currently, the University is also running the Fresh Air Adelphi campaign which includes electric vehicle charging stations and a campus rideshare program. This energy efficiency project is the source of pride among the 8,000 students and staff who frequent the campus daily.
