Ahmed Ibrahim goes above and beyond

Ecosystem business development manager Ahmed Ibrahim thrives on challenges, both professional and personal. Not only does he go above and beyond for his clients during the week, but in his spare time he also pushes the limits.

How long have you been with Ecosystem?

I’ve been with Ecosystem for the past two and a half years, and it’s been a great experience so far. I’ve enjoyed working with a diverse pool of talent that collectively allows us to provide our clients with a valuable and distinctive customer experience.

What was your professional experience before Ecosystem?

I was with a Fortune 100 ESCO, and there was a night-and-day difference between that job and my time at Ecosystem. Unlike my past experience, at Ecosystem the entire organization is driven by the desire to achieve results and resolve our clients’ challenges. The clients come first, and that’s very satisfying professionally. Nothing we do is celebrated until we have a satisfied client.

What attracted you to energy efficiency?

I grew up in the Middle East, and, there, energy is not a focus because it’s relatively cheap. But as I was doing my BA here at the University at Albany-SUNY and living through the energy crunch, I recognized that this was a potential career opportunity, one that would allow me to solve problems and have a positive impact on the environment.

What’s your philosophy of customer service?

“The customer is always right until they’re wrong.” This is what I mean – just as our clients are highly professional in their sphere, we are energy professionals. It’s our duty to listen to our clients and then leverage all our talents and capabilities to solve their challenges, maintaining the integrity of the service itself. Sometimes that requires educating our clients about energy efficiency.

What’s your outlook on the field of energy efficiency?

I’m sure that demand for energy efficiency will continue for years. After 11 years of experience, I have realized that the energy performance contract (EPC) arena in particular has been driven by developers or contractors and not by clients’ challenges. So through my career at Ecosystem, I aim to extend the customer-centric approach to energy efficiency and contribute to the organic evolution of results-driven energy efficiency.

How do you unwind on the weekends?

I enjoy challenges even in my downtime. I’ve always been passionate about flight, and in 2007 I tried skydiving. I’m a US Parachute Association ABCD licensed skydiver and coach. After a long week, I celebrate or refresh and restart by jumping out of a plane.
